The Cook County Vikings American Legion junior baseball team advanced to the Division II Junior Legion State Tournament beginning Friday, Aug. 10, in Montevideo, Minn.

The Grand Marais-based 16-and-under team has five players from Silver Bay: Ero Wallin Riley Tiboni, Lucas Stadler, Ryder McMillen and Timmy Perfetto.

Typically, players from Silver Bay play with the Lake Superior Rivals associated with the American Legion Post in Two Harbors. There weren't enough players to field a combined Silver Bay and Two Harbors team this year, so the five Silver Bay boys made the trek to Grand Marais for practice.

Cook County finished the regular season 9-5 with wins over Esko, Taconite, International Falls and Cherry.

The Vikings play Starbuck in the opening game of the tournament at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10.
